Filecoin GTM model lessons:

Overall, the success of filecoin could be roughly outlined as: Filecoin high-profile PR & 200M+ funding amount + Decentralized AWS narrative —— Miners have high price expectation for Filecoin —- participated very actively —- Filecoin never reset the testnet metrics —- very big wealth effect to early contributors —— Miners in China are incentivized to sub-sale 分销 to retails to get more token to stake (hence more mining rewards) & higher staking window, low emission award leads to little selling pressure —- Multilevel community-driven marketing scheme in China to bootstrap the supply side.

Ultimately, the key to bootstrap supply side boils down to miners having high price expectation.

Secondary reasons include 1) Filecoin’s high node requirement (the whole setup including staking amounts to around 500K-$1m at that point) incentivizes miners to market to retails for them to contribute their liquidity so that miners could mine more rewards and retails also have incentive to participate because of the high barrier of entry; 2) Filecoin’s tokenomics: long staking window (think around 500 days before the staked token becomes unlocked) and low emssion (20% of the mining reward unlock instantly and rest linearly vesting) leads to low sell pressure. The confluence of these factors leads to a community-driven, multi-level marketing scheme (Filecoin/Protocol Lab actually never approached to miners, the miners go to them).
